Northmarch is the bastion of Tariana. It is the natural route between the sea and the mountains leading west to Adokon. As a result, much industry in Northmarch is geared toward defense. Travelers also pass through this region, whether on the way to sacred Mt. Vrol or to hunting trips within the forests.

  Towns and Cities

"Aledan" -Aledan is not only a major stopping point for travelers passing from the East toward Mt. Vrol, but it also is a major defensive area in the narrowed plains leading to the heart of Tariana. Aledan always has a strong garrison of guards, as well as a division of the Crimson Legion stationed there. Most of the structures here are built of wood, the exception being the Temple, which is contructed of fine black basalt, quarried to the east.

The center of the community, the Temple of Vrol is a large and imposing structure made of blocks of deep black basalt. Within, there are halls where the graduating project of the classes of the Aledan school are displayed. These projects range from traditional sculptures of the gods from marble or basalt, to more modernistic brass, bronze, and iron statues of local heroes, including Rahkzan.

The Aledan School is a highly respected institute of learning, where classes are taught by priests of Vrol, as well as by master craftsmen. This boarding school has students from all over the Northmarch district in attendance, as well as some from other districts of Tariana. Each year, the graduating class creates a class project, which is donated to the Temple, and remains on display there.

The dwelling of the Lord of Northmarch is located not far outside the town limits of Aledan. Aledan is the seat of Northmarch.

The small Shrine of Aralea, a statue worked in white marble placed in a domed columned structure with a small park around it, was planned by those residents of Aledan who trace their ancestry to Enden.

"Docersul" -A small town high upon the plateau of Northmarch, Docersul has begun to thrive with an increase in tourism. Hunters from Tarian lands, as well as adventurers from other lands, come to trek through the highlands in pursuit of game animals. The Empire’s Arms Inn provides comfortable accommodations before and after these hunting expeditions, and many a traveler has been heard to say that they would return for the excellent hunting in the area. Another draw to the area is the Highland Mead, produced in Docersul. Honey from local bees is used to produce the mead, which is reputed to be among the finest highland meads of the land.

"Estt" - A small town erected by local fishermen and merchants, Estt thrives on the fishing industry. The farming is great in the area, but it takes a second seat to fishing in the open sea. Fish, fish oil, and other products derived from fish are shipped throughout Tariana from this port.

Busy at night, the Barnacle Inn is the only tavern and inn within Estt. Fishermen and travellers frequent the inn, and Imperial sailors are often seen here as well. Most nights are loud with the sound of drunk fishermen boasting of their adventures on the open sea, and with the townsfolk gathered nightly for a famous Estt fish boil.

"Uskeld" -A frontier town, Uskeld is a military town, housing Imperial troops as well as local militia. It’s primary function is to serve as a base of operations for patrols guarding the border from bandits, as well as invading armies. The land near Uskeld is poor and desolate, and wars as well as bandits have kept the number of farms low.
