I know we all know this...but there will not be SPECIAL skills just for thieves. All players can learn to sneak, pick locks, pick pockets, or disguise. And all players will have an equal chance to learn disguise...thieves will not be better at disguise unless they practice it more.

Remember, Adellion is classless. So calling yourself a thief has no bearing on the game-mechanics. You call yourself a thief because that is the profession you choose to play and you practice skills related to that profession.

I wanted to clarify this for all professions, not just thieves. You call yourself a cook but anyone can learn to cook if they practice the skills enough. A cook is just a player-defined name for someone who spends most of his time cooking or sells cooked foods. It is not a game defined title. You can change professions any time you want.

So the only reason you would call yourself a thief is for roleplay reasons?

Since roleplay is essential, yes. :D

Seriously though, you would call yourself a thief if you steal, right? The skills used by thieves also have other uses. A spy might learn disguise or even lockpick. A hunter or warrior might sneak. A magician or bard might learn pickpocket just to thrill an audience. Using the skills does not make you a thief...but using them to steal from other people will.

More likely it will be others who brand you a thief. :)

I am simply saying that unlike other games, such as SWG, you do not choose the profession first and then have those skills available to you that characterize a thief. Instead, you learn the skills, any skills, and then use them to create your profession. But all players will have all skills available, not only those that define whatever profession they wish to profess.

Dying of old age is not a game mechanic...but roleplayed at this time. It may be added...I hope....but its not planned currently.

A magician?

A magician?

Yeah, the guy who does magic tricks? :) A performer? This is a roleplay game, afterall. One could easily create a magician character and con their way across the world. :) Its all in the delivery...you just have to use your imagination. *winks*

And this is one of the great things about Adellion. This gives you the freedom to be different from the next man in any way you choose. There's no simple 'best'. you get to have real variety in characters, not simply a profession and a level of competency.

I wonder if anyone will actually live that long to die of old age! :( Oh, and if I was going to be a thief in Adellion, the last thing I would want to do is to go around telling everyone. You just might find yourself with more then you bargained for.

Exactly right! I don't think thieves had a title over their heads saying "Thief" like they do in the other MMORPGs :)
Man I love Adellion's world. *crosses fingers*

Put your pointer on the next man, his custom I tell you what my name is called message reads: "Jack Sparrow, Outlawed and Pirate of the Carribean". "Soo..." you say. "Jack, is it not? I've been looking for you."
:p
The public hanging the very next day would of course be a direct result of the above stated sequence of events.

Your world is classless!
Your world is priceless!
All praise your world!
