*Ducks out of the way of the hordes of new fans coming to the site.*
'Cause it honestly sounds like a different kind of game, and I think a lot of people are ready for something new. Very nice.

Paul Hutson: Traveling around the land will be a slow job; you can travel by horse, cart or even boats - but there are no magical transportation spells, this also helps to give the players the sense of the size of Adellion.
This is so true and it's the sense that's important imho. A world is no bigger than the time it takes to cross it.
Laura Wampfler:...You will have to stop and eat or drink to keep up your strength, not to mention rest occasionally. When you come to a river, you may find the current is too fast to cross safely, so you must move upstream to find a better crossing place.
Yes! Finally well get a feeling of wilderness. When I ventured in the wild of north Sweden I found river crossing to be a real challenge. A very good interview.

Hmm... comments... let's see.
Each dish in the cooking skill will need salt as an ingredient - except sweets of course
I am not much of a cook myslef so I checked with my girlfriend, mother nad grandma... They seem to agree the about 80% of the sweets recepies include salt. :)
Very nice bit about priests, now I can finally see how a priest character can actually affect gameworld instead of just role-playing with no consiquences to anyone.

*laughs* Yeah, I noticed that too. Salt actually brings out sweetness. Try adding it to grapefruit instead of sugar..or to hot chocolate. Yum!
Also, not all foods REQUIRE salt to be cooked. I rarely add salt to my food prior to cooking. :) And salt also can be used to preserve food.

One new feature is that each culture will have towns where the main language is French, German or Spanish.
Very interesting! Now my 3 years of high school spanish will pay off. It's great to see features like these.

OMG an interview with actually all relevant non-bullsh&t information.
As always good job guys. Every time I read about Adellion I say to myself - " man this is what I want to play! This is what a MMORPG should be about." And then I  get scared something might prevent you from releasing it.
oh my, oh my.
You have no idea how much I want you to succeed and leave all the EQ/DAoC/bla-bla so-called-mmorpgs in the dust.
One thing that popped in my head - you say that if the religious authorities are against your war you can lose soldiers.
Ok, but how about if the religios authorities fully actively support you actually get some volunteers?
Say you hire 50 soldiers, the religious institurion supports your mission, they preach in your favor and you get 1-2-3 NPCs who volunteer to join your army without pay? I mean you still need to outfit them and provide food for them, but you don't have to pay the to stay in the army.
It could be even that the longer the church supports oyu the more NPCs oyu get.
Say you get those first 1-2-3 soldier volunteers, and if the church supports you for RL weeks / or in-game months there is some chance you might get an additional volunteer here and there, or not ;)
If players can be preachers and actively work for the general's cause this can be a good incentive for the military leaders to try and secure the clergy's favor :)
Very interesting! Now my 3 years of high school spanish will pay off. It's great to see features like these.
I hope they have a town (or two) for Aussies (only). :)

I hope they have a town (or two) for Aussies (only). :)
Well..since Aussies speak English, they can join or build an English speaking town. ;)

Man, this has to happen! I never thought I'd be eager to pay for play like this, but: This is the greatest thing that still may happen to Online RPGs! Wanna play! Great interview!

Nice. I liked hearing about rivers being too fast to cross at certain points and such. It will make fords and bridges very important points and I could see decisive battles fought over them and important settlements growing at them.
where is the interview? (like, has it been posted on a website)

P.s. I'm in one of my humerous moods today.

This is the first time i have posted on this forum, but i have been watching the game progess for a while. I, like so many others, await this games with so much antisapation. I just hope it lives up to all they have made it out to be. I also hope it doesn't end up being to hard for a casual play like me, and my wife. Work takes up way to much of my time and leave so little for better things like Adellion. I would like to see the rest of the interview and to know more info on the release of the game.

Welcome to the forums Cethlenn. From looking around the feeling I get is while Adellion plans to be realistic and RP focused so to have they taken into consideration the needs and concerns of the casual gamer.
But like you my hope is that they stick to their guns on the ideas they have as they are imho the next generation MMORPG.

Like I've said on so many occasions, this game is going to very interesting, and also very unique, seeing as almost every MMO has magic or futuristic based action in it.
welcome to the forums. they r probably the best i've seen on any game site...

We will stick to our guns, Valeran! Adellion is not just something we are doing to make money or fame...we are doing this because its the kind of game we want to play. :) Sometimes, our dreams get ahead of the technical aspects and we simply can't do something, but at this time, most of those 'maybe' things have already been discussed as impossible or on the list of possibles if they work. Rest assured, we will do everything we can to make sure we get as much as we can into the game. The basic idea of the game...a game made for and by roleplayers...won't change. Permadeath won't change. Sometimes we do have to make changes as we did when we had to shrink the size of the world. But we will make sure Adellion retains its uniqueness and its focus on roleplay.
Aragon
06-26-2004, 05:33 AM
Well, you people are doing a great job at it.
hey teila, whats going to happen if someone dies? will their body stay there for other ppl to bury or will it disappear?
Aragon
06-26-2004, 05:45 AM
It decays over time and will eventually disappear.
so you could potentially eat it? (hehehehe)
Aragon
06-26-2004, 05:58 AM
Probably. Hmm... pondering.
i mean, in this game you have to eat, drink to stay healthy.
does that mean i can be trapped in a dungeon and decide to munch on my cellmate cos they don't feed us??
or does it mean food can be poisoned *choke*
Aragon
06-26-2004, 06:12 AM
It means... well, I don't know. Hungry? Grab a human leg.
New meaning to take away food...
Aragon
06-26-2004, 06:20 AM
Indeed. Haha. To eat, or not to eat. To eat. *Human screaming in background because you're chewing on his arm.*
i wonder if people run around after their heads have been cut off, like chooks do? doubt, but still i'm sure it would be a nice touch
Aragon
06-26-2004, 06:28 AM
It's amazing how long a Snapping Turtles head will still snap at you after it's been decapitated.
Aragon
06-26-2004, 06:32 AM
What? LoL. A snapping turtle can still snap at you for a couple days after it's head has been cut off.
Aragon
06-26-2004, 06:36 AM
Yeah I'm serious. You think I would make this stuff up? Well, probably. But I'm being completely serious on this matter though.
sinister
06-26-2004, 11:12 AM
If you do indeed intend to provide evidence that a snapper turtle still snaps far beyond decapitation, please do not create a new example. Use one that exists already. I would hate to know you killed a turtle in order to satisfy another gamer's curiosity. We're not wanton killers, we're serious (although possibly casual) roleplayers!
Would anybody know how long a human heart keeps beating outside the body? :p

Thanks Telia. Good to hear.
actually, if you cut out someones heart, they will live long enough to see it beat once or twice before dying.

Nice read. I was a little confused when you guys said that buidling a house would require permission from a priest etc. While on the other hand you say that Adellion will be 100's of square miles. These 100's of square miles will all be controlled by npc's in which we will need permission to build our homes.
For possible freelancers that does not sound very pleasing. I am not saying I am a freelancer but I may wish my guild or faction to be totally seperated from any affiliations from npc entities and factions.

Priests are player characters, not npcs...and this refers only to the Salans. Other cultures may require approval from various leaders, all of them player characters. This is a roleplaying game so the various cultures will have different rules regarding deeds and land grants. You will have to be involved with other players to be successful on Adellion. Its part of the game. If you want an official guild in the game, you will have to have approval from your cultural lead most likely. If you want an unofficial guild without access to special features but simply a group, you can do that without permission. However, you will still need permission to build or own land..just as you would in most feudal societies in real life medieval times. Of course, you can try to do it without permission but you might make enemies.
