Folks, time is running out on the Adellion Contest!

Entrants could win books written by Adellion staff members, with their piece or item included in the final game!

Remember, all entries to mercredis@adellion.org by March 5th, 2007!

I know there is a high degree of creative talent among our fans and I am sure there are some wonderful ideas floating around. We truly look forward to see the results of these endeavors.

I got a question!
what should the essay look like?
Should it be more like a formal writting that explains in detail how arts developed or it can be a fictional story like piece of writing?

I assumed it would be a mixture of both. By the way where did the title "Mercedis" come from?

"Mercedis" (from the Latin) translates to" Reward " .

An essay is just a work of non-fiction, such as a discussion of something in the lore. This is not easier though since you would have to actually do some research into medieval life. :) Essentially, it is fiction because its based on a fictional world..but you write it as if it is non-fiction.

BTW, I am not in charge of the contest..I have enough on my plate. :) So please don't send me PMs asking me to answer questions. I was waiting for the person who in charge to do so. All questions should be asked here, not in private messages unless they are sensitive in nature. We will get to them when we can do so. Be patient. :)

Thank you
I didnt know you were not in charge of this contest. I posted my question today in the morning and when came back home in the evening and still no answer was posted I thought you have kinda overlooked it. So I just decided to use the pm I already was writting to you about the other subject and kindly remind you since you respond most of the questions on this forum.

I realize that. :) I seem to be in charge of everything around here...but really, I am not! :D If we don't respond in a couple of days, then feel free to PM. Otherwise, give us a chance! We do have other lives. I just had a brand new lovely couch delivered.

Since I am running the contest, I'll answer how I feel it should be done, although Teila has done a sound job. I would have answered earlier, but I have been ill today.

Adrala, the answer to that question is entirely up to yourself.

If you wanted to write an essay-style piece as a response to the stimulus, you certainly could. There have been some excellent IC essays written by fans at various points.

Alternatively, it could be presented as an entirely fictional piece of work, like a written-down fairy tale or folk story.

So there you go. I've not really answered your question, I might add, except to say that it's entirely up to you :)

Thank you Phophos
I like it. I like freedom. I will give it a try and if soemthing decent comes out I will send it.
Ah! almost forgot...what actually means that the essay will be put into the game? will it be like a in game book or just will be part of the lore? not that it is so important but just curiosity :p

It will be an in-game book only if it fits with the lore. It will not be part of the lore. Only the lore team can write lore. :)

Does it have to be 100% accurate to the lore? Afterall, it would be written IC, and IC isn't omniscient or always unbiased.

If you are writing a story or essay, it could be from the perspective of a character, and therefore could be subject to the ignorances and biases of the character. However, please keep the entries as close to the lore as possible, and make the ignorance and bias realistic.

Remember, one of the rewards for winning is to have your submission be included in the game, so you have to know that entries that closely follow the lore will have an advantage.

So while it's fine to use a character perspective of ignorance and bias, please make sure it is not the writer who suffers those. :)

Actually, I don't believe there were enough to actually hold the contest. I think its time to close this thread. :)
