So, were you planning on telling us about the new engine if it wouldn't have worked out!? :p

Sound interesting, nice surprise.

So,
from september journal
"the first seperated server service to be implemented"

Tell me more...will it be possibe to be in the same game world while being logged in on seperate servers?

I can't answer the second part of your question..but will let the programmers do this..if they take a break from programming long enough to read it. :)

But as for the first part, we had every confidence that it would work out in the end or we would not have made the decision to switch. It was a very difficult decision, by the way, and David listened to each and everyone of the team members. We all unanimously agreed that the better graphics and lighting plus the opportunity to increase the size of the world (not by much) would all be well accepted by the fans even if it did mean a short delay.

I have seen the terrains that can be created by this engine and they are beautiful! In a world such as Adellion, where immersion is the key, this is going to be a huge boost for all of the players.

I think to answer the second question you have to specify your definition of server. The term is used in many different contexts which, in regard to your question, can be confusing.

Servers can be both physical and logical. A physical server is the machine on which a game runs, however these can be clustered together into one logical server where multiple computers work together to provide a single service (the game). You can be logged on to more than one physical computer if they are clustered logically together, you can even be `logged on' (connected) to more than one machine at the same time. However, if you mean a server `shard' when you say server then no, it's not possible to be logged onto different ones with the same character at the same time. That's the point of a shard, it splits the load of players over multiple servers (logical or physical). Of course you can log on to seperate shards with seperate characters on the same client machine if you run two clients programmes.

However, Adellion is a single world game, so far as I know there are no plans to shard it.

Hope that helps.

No shards on Adellion. :) Just thought I would clarify. Thanks, Karhig!

Will this switch cause any delay? The journal said development was going on using both engines for 2 years. Seems like a switch to the newer engine will speed things up instead of slowing them down.

Even though role play is the essential ingredient, a bit of eye candy is certainly a bonus. Can't wait to see some new screenshots  (the real question is if I can wait untill...well...it's been said before).

Karhig, I'm glad Adellion won't be "sharded" (i.e. split up in different instances of a world). Let me rephrase my question...
I think it has been discussed before; in Adellion all players will be logged on the same game world, on the same "physical" server device apparatus, period. So, with this "seperated server service", will it now be possible to have one server in, let's say, North America and another in Europe, composing the same virtual world (not sharded!!)?! (forming one "logical server"?!) What's the deal?

Can it support more people?
How will the servers communicate?
Will half the world be running on one "physical" server?
Did I missunderstand it completely?
Are you still planning for the same old familiar Adellion-one world-one server ("physical server")?
Am I asking too many questions?

Don't leave me fumbling in the dark, but spank me if it has already been adressed in the forum.

I don't believe this has anything to do with physical server locations. At this time, Alchemic Dream will be publishing the game on their servers, which are located in Canada. As far as I know, there are no plans at this time to have the servers elsewhere. However, that is something that is in the future and things might change so I am not sure any one associated with Adellion can answer your question at this time.

Yes, we are still planning on one world, one server. That probably will not change since it is very important to Adellion.

Just to clarify the "server service".

There are 2 differents servers here. You should distinguish between the Hardware server (the machine on which the game run) and what we call the game server which is the server side application of the game which maintain the game database, connect players, manage the game objects and more.

Having one application doing all the job is not a good idea for performance reason, so we are splitting the game server into smaller dedicated server who do a specific work. We call these services.

Such services can be (non exhaustive list) chat, login, character creation/maintenance, inventory, commerce, etc...

Hope that help understand.

I understand, everything is chrystal clear. I wish you good luck with the new engine.

Nice and if you guys made any can we see two side by side images one on togue and the other on shading? But only if you have them made and they are able to be shown on the forums. or is it that they might look only a bit better but they take les time to create?
