I think we need these now!

1. Please respect fellow forum members. Do not flame them openly, do not try to humiliate them, do not use abusive language or threaten members, and do not send private emails that abuse or humiliate or threaten other forum members. Doing so could get you banned temporarily or permanently.

2. These forums have been created specifically to share information about Adellion. Keep all non-Adellion discussions on the Off-Topic forum.

3. Stay OOC on all forums except the Roleplay forum.

4. Be helpful to newcomers and to each other. If you do not wish to answer a question, wait until someone else does so. Do not yell at newcomers no matter how annoying you feel they might be.

5. Do not spam the forums or the PMs. Doing so will get you banned.

6. Try to stay on topic. Keep bantering and random discussions on the off-topic forum. Threads that wander too far off topic will be closed.

7. In honor of our multi-national population, please do not intentionally insult people of other countries (governments are okay but there is a very fine line there so be careful). You will receive a warning and your post will be deleted.

8. Please keep your language G-rated on the forums. There is a little leeway in the roleplay forum IF the language suits the character or adds to the story. Otherwise, *** out your own bad words in the other forums.

9. Report violations of these rules to the moderator/administrator via PM. Do not point out violations openly in the forums. If you feel moderators have done something wrong, PM me in private. Do not openly flame moderators in the forum.

.

3. Stay OOC on all forums except the Roleplay forum.

6. Try to stay on topic. Keep bantering and random discussions on the off-topic forum. Threads that wander too far off topic will be closed.

I'll just highlight these two, since a lot of people seem to be getting confused between IC/OOC and On topic/Off topic.

In character (IC) = Acting a role, as if you are someone else.
You do this in the Roleplay forum, and you will do it in the game once it's out. Acting a role includes not just the way you talk, but the world you refer to and the knowledge you assume.

Out of Character (OOC) = Breaking your role.
You say this if, for some reason, you need to temporarily drop the part you are playing. For example, if there is somthing you really need to say in the roleplay forum, but you're not saying it as part of a character role in the Adellion world.

On Topic
When the discussion in a thread directly relates to the subject in the first post of the thread.

Off Topic
When the discussions in a thread bear little relation to the originally intended subject. Also, (and here's the bit many people might have missed), 'Off topic' is often written as a form of disclaimer used to alert the reader that the writer is going to temporarily leave the topic of conversation and make some unrelated comment. For example, in the association thread, if you say something which ignores the association rules given in the first post, you're making an off topic comment, *not* an OOC comment.

Off topic comments should be avoided in the rest of the forums in the same way as OOC comments should be avoided in the roleplay forum. It's okay from time to time, but they should ideally be kept to a minimum.

Make sense? :)

Please read the FAQ before asking questions.
Read the forums before you post your question as many answers to many questions have been repeated too many times over and over.
I hope I have given good advice. :D

ATTENTION: Beginning in post 5 following through the post directly above has been nothing more than a demonstration created by Spooks, Kiie, and myself to be helpful to anyone who does not understand Forum Rule #6. Please use the last few posts as a guide as to what NOT to do in the On Topic Forums. Such behaviour is only permitted in the OFF TOPIC forum.

If Teila did not know that we had just conducted this demonstration, she would next post a friendly reminder to stay on topic. Subsequent reminders from Teila would be more forceful, and might include "club waving." As a last resort, threads that stray too far off topic are locked down.

Hopefully, this has been helpful to all with questions:

NOW - back to the topic at hand.
