The daily diet of the Drulons varies from place to place in the swamp. Reddish-brown rice is grown throughout the swamp and is the main and sometimes only grain that they consume. In addition to this they cultivate a wide variety of root vegetables and several of the plants throughout the swamp grow fruits and berries. For meat the Drulons must hunt and fish as there are few tracts of land large enough to herd on. Game consists of various rodents, snake, alligator, feral pigs, insects, wild fowl and a wide variety of fish.
Water in the great mangrove and cypress forests at the center of the swamp is quite drinkable and due to the acidity of the tree roots it does not grow bacteria or stagnate. This brownish water is greatly prized by sailors and merchants as it can be kept for long periods of time and has a slight taste of root tea to it.
The swamps also contain thousands of varieties of plants and herbs both medicinal and lethally poisonous. Several medicines have been developed lately and are being exported to the lands outside the swamp. Poisons have also found a market with the less reputable merchants. The bark of the Buta tree has recently grown in popularity for being dried, powdered and smoked for it's calming effect.
